Where to buy - unusual - souvenirs in Brasília

What are the typical souvenirs around the world?

As I read in a forum on the topic, "in many souvenir shops there's plenty of generic crap. It's just stuff that doesn't tell where it's brought. No need to pay an overprice for those". Indeed, in my trips so far it wasn't difficult to notice that they just stamp on the name or popular attractions of the city/country on anything and people will buy them.

In Brasilia it's all the same. We've plenty of keyrings, models of any Brasilia monuments, magnets, t-shirts (most of them made in China!), and so on for sale.

I just wonder why people buy "original" pieces of the Berlin wall when there are amazing shops of stuff made by local artists. I mean, I prefer to buy things that are useful and local, reminding me of their origins when I'm back home. I've got my Egyptian egg oven, a model of the Eiffel tower and a miniature chiva from Colombia, among many others... but my favorite ones are a picture painted with sand from Cabo Verde and the coin purse from Morocco the most, because the first became a unique decorative painting on my wall and the latter serves as an useful accessory for my daily life.

Of course there's nothing wrong about buying objects designed for foreigners, but I believe that instead of buying cheap knick knacks from tourist traps that we’ll only throw away in a few months, there real best things to bring home and remind us or tell our friends the best of our experience when in another city or abroad.

For example, Brasíla is internationally famous because of the architecture, but who lives here can see/feel a soul in it all. Anyone who had the chance to live in the city for a couple of months will for sure have stories to tell about the cultural, natural life of the city (local poets, musicians, artists, the lifestyle), or about the vegetation, the sky, the sunset...!

Beyond the photos, the National Museum is a meeting point for DJs, musicians, artists. From time to time, there are people gathering to talk, attend open door exhibitions, have a beer and watch the projections on its walls. The Cine Brasília holds a great event to discuss the afroculture in Brazil, the City Park holds a number of events created to bring people together, make picnic, listen to good music, exchange ideas and craft stuff produced in the city.

The Ermida Dom Bosco, the Ponte JK, the Calçadão da Asa Norte, or the Pontão are one of the most must visit places to watch the breathtaking sunset in Brasília. And let's not forget the Ipês trees, blooming in June and October all along the Eixão, the main avenue in Brasília, and other parts of the city. Although the most common [and reminded] color is yellow, the tree change its color from winter to early spring. The purple flowering starts, goes for pink, then yellow and then becomes white.

So my suggestion here is: rather than buying snowglobes (c'mon, we don't even snow in Brasília!), although those things can be lots of fun, too, a pretty unique way to remember all the places you've been in Brasília, or the experience you've had over here, select everyday local items that can be put to traditional or new uses back home.

One of the shops in Brasília who offer that experience is the Tertulia shop. They have a variety of craft gits such as notebooks, boxes, pillows, bags, t-shirts, and posters with the sayings or art of local artists and poets, like Nicolas Behr or late ones who changed and inspired the musical scenario in the city, e.g. Renato Russo, Cássia Eller, Plebe Rude etc. There are of course items related to national and international cultural names, like Roberto Freire, Dom Quixote, Charlie Chaplin, Frida Kahlo... There are also items depicting the vegetation, like the Ipês trees.
